Abstract
The complexity of this landscape and the interconnectivity of modern Big Science is reflected in the essay by Dr Mark Robinson (SOAS, London) in chapter 56. Exasperatingly the world is beset by an inability of countries to cooperate via international institutions to address these policy problems that span borders. This international relations gridlock encompasses both a deadlock or dysfunctionality in existing organizations and the inability of countries to come to new agreements as issues arise. Big Science communities have been remarkably effective in evolving complex processes and mechanisms to enable international collaborations.
