Abstract
The United Nations was created in 1942 as a political military alliance and went on to create a range of global institutions including those we know today. It tried to overcome the weaknesses of the League by creating more enforcement powers. Despite the pressures of the Cold War, weak commitments to it success by leading powers and internal ineffectiveness the UN survives and even thrives as the premier global institution.
