Conditional and other functions of forms in /-(za(.))r/ in Abkhaz

Abstract

Today in Abkhaz the forms in question are basically markers of protases (= if-clauses). But they have a range of other functions. The article looks at the spread of functions and suggests that the unifying semantic feature is one of /irrealis/.
