Abstract

Moving from an overview of Korea's state-sponsored preservation and promotion system for the intangible cultural heritage, this chapter explores the music and dance at the two state sacrificial rituals, the Rite to Confucius and the Rite to Royal Ancestors, within Intangible Cultural Properties Nos. 1 and 86. Consideration is given to the establishment of an authorised performance version and critiques and recent re-evaluations of this
