Abstract

The results of a study of Jaminjung, Ngaliwurru and Nungali plant and animal knowledge conducted by traditional owners with linguistic and biological support are presented. Jaminjung, Ngaliwurru and Nungali names and uses of plants and animals, scientific names and common English names for 229 plants and 248 animals are included. Introductory chapters outline Jaminjung, Ngaliwurru and Nungali terms for seasons, terms for implements and habitat terms. Jaminjung, Ngaliwurru and Nungali biological knowledge is categorised and discussed in later chapters. Indices of animal common names, plant common names and Jaminjung, Ngaliwurru and Nungali plant and animal names are provided: 108 plants and 104 animals are illustrated
