Research Interests | I have a longstanding interest in intellectual history and political philosophy. My book, Indian Secularism: a Social and Intellectual History, 1890-1950, traced the emergence of an idea of secularism in India. I have also written on the Indian constitution, temple entry movements, Ambedkar and Gandhi, land speculation in twentieth-century Bombay, the history and politics of emotions, and am currently working on a new project on the history of gold in India. Further research interests are in the history of leather and leather tanning, and Wayanad, Kerala, as a site of cultural and ecological change. |
